Nonprofit and other organizations holding Texas Hold'em poker tournaments that are being advertised in local newspapers are not legal under Pennsylvania law, according to state police.

The operation of a Texas Hold'em poker tournament constitutes unlawful gambling, police said.

Authorities also report that several companies are advertising the set-up and operation of the tournament and are requesting nonprofit groups to contact them. These companies take a percentage off the top, with the remaining monies going to the nonprofit and the game winner.

Police said using these services for the operation of games is illegal.
