PITTSBURGH -- Former world lightweight champion Paul "The Pittsburgh Kid" Spadafora, accused of trying to kill his fiancee, will not go on trial until late December.
The trial was scheduled to start Monday. Defense attorney William Difenderfer requested a delay because Spadafora needs elbow surgery and his pregnant alleged victim, Nadine Russo, is past her due date.
Police say Spadafora shot Russo at a McKees Rocks gas station in October 2003 because he was angry that Russo got two flat tires while driving his Hummer.Spadafora, 29, of Coraopolis, is charged with attempted homicide. His trial is now set to begin Dec. 20.
