Motorcyclist Hurt In Tunnel Wreck Files Civil Suit

Mark McGreevy, a 44-year-old South Hills motorcyclist who was seriously injured in the fiery collision outside the Armstrong Tunnel on June 3, 2004, has filed a civil suit against the trucking company and truck driver which caused the accident.

McGreevy was seriously injured in the accident when he became trapped underneath a tri-axle truck, which had hit his motorcycle from behind. His motorcycle exploded shortly after and McGreevy was engulfed in flames for several minutes before rescue crews could free him.

He suffered multiple injuries, a leg amputation, and also extensive burns over much of his body. He has undergone several skin-grafting surgeries and remains hospitalized in the Burn Unit at Mercy Hospital.

John P. Grismondi, McGreevy’s attorney, indicated that it was best for his client that the lawsuit be filed quickly.

“Mark has a long road of recovery ahead of him, and it is in his best interest that we get the legal claim on record so that we are not losing further time while he recovers,” said Grismondi.

Pittsburgh Police still have a criminal investigation pending in regard to the accident, but Grismondi said that did not influence the decision to file the civil suit.
