The Armstrong Tunnels and part of Forbes Avenue near Duquesne University were closed Thursday afternoon while police investigated a crash that burned a man over 70 percent of his body.

A dump truck apparently ran over a motorcycle at a red light near the Forbes-side entrance to the tunnels, Channel 4's Meghan Jones reported.

The bike rider -- Mark McGreevy, 43, of Baldwin Borough -- became trapped under the truck, which then caught fire.

University police and a constable arrived with fire extinguishers and tried to keep the flames at bay. City paramedics and firefighters got to the scene and used air bags to lift the still-burning truck and pull the man free.

McGreevy was taken to Mercy Hospital. He was reportedly in critical condition Friday morning.

The truck driver -- Jack Fata, 64, of Clarksburg, Pa. -- was not injured. He gave blood for toxicology tests, which is standard procedure.
