Good Samaritans Tackle Purse SnatcherAttacker Suspected Of Knifepoint RobberyUPDATED: 1:08 p.m. EST February 4, 2000 The good Samaritan may have been thought extinct in our suspicious times, but a couple of men in downtown Pittsburgh proved that theory wrong.
Greg Farrell, 29, and Kenny McGee, 24, tackled a purse snatcher Thursday on a crowded street, bringing a smile to the face of the woman who lost her purse.
The two men were leaving a Market Square restaurant when they heard cries for help.
They said a tall man carrying a large tan purse ran by, so Farrell and McGee gave chase, tackling the man twice before police arrived.
Farrell said the man put up a pretty good fight.
According to police, the man is a suspect in a knifepoint robbery earlier Thursday.
When Farrell and McGee caught up with the owner of the purse, she was crying.
"I walked up to her and said, 'Ma'am, would you like to have this back?' She mustered the cutest smile amidst her tears," Farrell told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
McGee told the Post-Gazette, "When we gave that purse back, her eyes lit up and she said, 'Oh my God, thank you.' It was a good feeling." Copyright 2001 by ThePittsburghChannel. All rights reserved.
