Landslides Cause Trail To Close

Quick Construction May Cost The City

POSTED: 7:21 p.m. EST March 10, 2000

After the third landslide in the last year, Schenley Trail is being closed--permanently, reports WTAE's Nina Pineda.

The trail was built over 30 miles of old train rails, but has continued to slide.

After spending $67,000 on the original construction, it may cost three times that to clean up the ugly mess.

Settling lawsuits, suring up the hillside, hiring a new engineer, and new construction to replace the old path could cost upwards of $200,000.
