Mayor Murphy Issues Statement

POSTED: 1:05 p.m. EST December 4, 2003

This is a press release issued by the Mayor Tom Murphy's Office on Thursday, Dec. 4.

STATEMENT OF MAYOR TOM MURPHY REGARDING REMARKS MADE YESTERDAY AT THE URBAN LAND INSTITUTE PANEL DISCUSSION

"Yesterday, while participating in a panel discussion about government mergers I attempted to broaden the depth of our conversation. In the context of a discussion of a full-scale merger of the City and County, I believe that race relations will be one of the most critical issues we will face and that this community should not shy away from an open, honest discussion of these issues.

However, I had no intention of insulting any of our many suburban friends and supporters as I truly believe that we are all in this together."

-Tom Murphy, Mayor
