Licensed Deer Processors Listed Online

Pennsylvania law doesn't require deer processors to obtain a license, which means anyone can butcher the animals if they don't sell the meat.

That's why the Allegheny County Health Department started a voluntary list of licensed and inspected deer processors on its Web site, www.achd.net. But Channel 4 Action News anchor Kelly Frey reports that only four businesses have listed their names.

Any business licensed through the ACHD or the state Departement of Agriculture must post a notice in a prominent place, so customers can see it upon entering the building. Chances are the processor doesn't have a license if it's not displayed.
