Butler County Woman Won't Carry Coach's Coffin PhotoWreck Kills Man, Injures Pregnant WifePOSTED: 11:28 am EDT September 23,
2003 BUTLER, Pa. -- A Butler County woman who caused a crash that killed a Mars Area wrestling coach and left his pregnant wife in a coma has objected to carrying a photograph that shows the man in his casket.Jennifer Langston, 27, pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle and reckless endangerment for the June 2002 collision with Glenn and Annette Clark. Prosecutors said Langston, of Cabot, was drunk and talking on a cell phone when she crossed the centerline on Neupert Road in Jefferson. Under terms of Langston's plea deal, she must serve one month in jail and six months on house arrest, carry a picture of the Clarks (pictured, left) at all times for five years, and pay $50 a month to a fund for the Clarks' son and $20,000 to the state Victim's Compensation Fund.Langston's attorney said the "spirit of the agreement" was that the picture of Glenn Clark should show him alive. Instead, Clark's parents gave court officials a photo of their son in his coffin."It was very unreasonable and cruel that she was given that picture," Langston's attorney, Michael Sherman, said at a hearing Wednesday.District Attorney Tim McCune has agreed to have the family provide a picture that shows Glenn Clark when he was alive.Sherman also objected to Langston's $20,000 payment, saying that it should be offset by the Clarks' insurance. The judge said he won't rule until both sides submit written arguments over the next several weeks.
