PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi said traffic on inbound Saw Mill Run Boulevard/ Route 51/19 had to be detoured while crews finished the repair work.

Just after noon, PennDOT announced the lights had been repaired and traffic was again being allowed through the affected area.

Channel 4 Action News' Ari Hait reported the closure could have been problematic because the outbound lanes from the Fort Pitt Tunnel are due to close at 10 p.m. for a weekend construction project and the route affected by the crash is the detour.

Officials with PennDOT told Hait that the Fort Pitt Tunnel closure will go on as scheduled, regardless of the condition of the traffic lights.
