Say the name 'Shrek' and most people are likely to picture Hollywood's big green ogre, but the Shrek that currently calls Nemacolin Woodlands Resort home is cute, cuddly and one of the rarest in the world.

WTAE Channel 4 Action News anchor Michelle Wright went to the resort's wildlife academy on Wednesday to meets its newest white lion cub up close and personal.

"There are only 30 white lions in the world. We've had our lions for about 3 1/2 years now, and this is our first litter, so it's very special. Most of the babies are in South Africa, so for us to have one in the U.S. is very special," said animal program manager Mandy Burnsworth.

As for coming up with a name for the cub, Burnsworth said that was the easy part.

"With the new 'Shrek' movie, with the little boy that says, 'Do the roar. Do the roar.' This guy roars all the time," said Burnsworth.

So far, the 1-week-old cub is living up to his namesake's reputation in both size and appetite.

"He's already doubled in size and he's a week old. He'll grow very, very rapidly. He eats every two hours, so he's really getting big quick," said Burnsworth.

Shrek's father also calls Nemacolin home, but his mother does not.

His brother was also born last week, but was unable to survive due to an umbilical cord infection.
