The jury in the Harrisburg public corruption trial is taking the weekend off after another day of deliberations failed to reach a verdict.

Deliberations resumed on Friday under way after an alternate replaced a sick juror in the theft, conspiracy and conflict-of-interest trial of a former Beaver County state representative and three of his one-time aides.

Prosecutors said they ran a scheme to siphon off taxpayer resources to wage political campaigns and underwrite other activities.

Judge Richard Lewis told jurors Friday they had to start over on the sixth day of closed-door deliberations in the case of former Rep. Mike Veon and co-defendants Brett Cott, Annamarie Perretta-Rosepink and Steve Keefer.

The juror who was replaced told Lewis Wednesday that deliberations had been hard on jurors and that they were turning on each other.

The jury now consists of seven women and five men. The case is being heard in Dauphin County.
