A Somerset County man has been jailed on charges he repeatedly had sex with a 9-month-old girl.

Police have also charged the child's mother in connection with the case.

Rodney Lee Thomas, 38, of Elk Lick Township, remains in the Somerset County Jail, unable to post $100,000 bond on charges including rape and aggravated indecent assault against the child.

Police said Thomas also had sexual encounters with a dog that led to the animal's death. He faces three counts of sexual intercourse with an animal.

Lisa Joy Slovick, 20, of Salisbury was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

State police in Somerset said Slovick witnessed the child being abused by Thomas four times and did nothing to stop it.

State police began investigating after county child welfare workers contacted them.

Police said Thomas told them he had been involved in similar sexual activity since he was a teenager.
