Community leaders have unveiled plans to breathe new life into Pittsburgh's West End Village.

The revitalization project includes a riverfront, new housing and park with a pedestrian trail.

"I think the timing's perfect because we've spent the past 10 years setting the stage for this moment," said organizer Dru Simeone.

On Wednesday, architects and organizers modeled development from other cities.

"My initial reaction was that it would be good for not only the West End neighborhood that were in right now, but also throughout the whole quarter," said Sen. Wayne Fontana, D-Brookline.

Those involved hope to transform the area into the new "it" place to be.

"I've never known a neighborhood more committed to remaking itself and working together," said Simeone.

A master plan for the projected is expected to be completed in six months.

Organizers said they welcome input for the project from residents.
