Officer Hurt In Crash On Rankin Bridge

Car Runs Red Light, Slams Into Police Car

A police officer was injured in a crash on the Rankin Bridge on Wednesday night.

The Rankin officer was on the on-ramp to the bridge when his cruiser collided with another vehicle.

Emergency dispatchers said the officer was unresponsive at the scene. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Police said Sgt. David Grimes is now recovering at home.

Investigators said a car ran a red light and slammed into Grimes' cruiser.

The driver of the other vehicle has been taken into police custody on suspicion of DUI.
