State police say a man was driving under the influence when he passed between two cars going opposite directions and nearly struck both of them in Dunbar Township, Fayette County, on Sunday afternoon.

According to the criminal complaint, one of the drivers in the incident on Ranch Road followed the suspect -- Christopher John Martin -- to a stop light and got out of his car and confronted Martin.

Then, the 24-year-old Martin put his car into reverse, slamming into the other driver's car and injuring the driver's 11-year-old daughter, whose head hit the windshield and caused a spider web effect in the glass, according to the complaint.

"When the vehicles impacted, I'm not sure if she was belted or not, but it caused her head to strike the windshield. It caused it to spider web it struck that severely," said Pennsylvania State Police Cpl. Juan Curry.

The other driver tried to reach into Martin's car and turn off the engine and punched Martin several times in an attempt to get him to stop his vehicle, the complaint said.

Martin drove away when the other man went back to his car to check on his daughter, police said.

Soon after that, a trooper saw Martin pull his car into the parking lot of the state police barracks in Uniontown, then get out of the vehicle and stagger toward the front door of the building, according to the complaint.

"When he arrived at the barracks, the investigating trooper watched him pull into the parking lot, drive his vehicle over the sidewalk, exit his vehicle and then stagger into the barracks," said Curry.

Martin was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, recklessly endangering another person and reckless driving. He was taken to the county jail on $25,000 bond.

Martin's address was not immediately available.
