A house fire spread to two neighboring homes in Pittsburgh's Beltzhoover area Saturday morning.

The fire on Gearing Avenue reached four-alarm status at one point.

The fire battalion chief told Channel 4 Action News it appears the fire was accidentally started by a plumber doing some work in one of the homes.

Neighbors saw the flames and jumped in to help those still inside the adjoining homes that were starting to catch fire.

"And then we realized that the guy in the white house here was paralyzed. And my boyfriend, Melvin, and my son, Michael, went in to get them out of the house because he's paralyzed. And the house was just in flames," said neighbor Roberta Hawkins.

One man in a wheelchair was taken to the hospital to be checked out by doctors, but no serious injuries were reported.

The Red Cross is helping five families with food and clothing and one family who was left homeless by the fire.
