On Thursday, a Pittsburgh teenager carried the Torch of Life through downtown to raise organ donor awareness.

"I feel special because it's like an opportunity to let the world know what kids need out here," said Jamiliah Beverly.

Beverly, 14, has been on the list waiting list for more than five years, hoping for a new bowel, pancreas and liver.

"I'm waiting on three transplants and I'm trying to get better," said Beverly.

She endures nightly treatments that interrupt her sleep, but keep her alive.

"It's a constant struggle because she wants to live a normal childhood life and she can't," said mother Erika Beverly.

Event organizers said if half the world's population agreed to donate their organs upon death, the waiting lists would quickly disappear.

The torch, which was once blessed by Pope John Paul II, began its current two year journey in Alaska in October. It will arrive in Argentina next year after making stops in 300 cities and 36 countries.
