Duquesne University has announced plans for a new residence hall on its Bluff campus.

"A Duquesne education is in demand more than it has ever been and, as a result, we need more on-campus housing options for our students," said university President Dr. Charles Dougherty in a statement.

The new building will take the place of Des Places Language Center, which currently stands on Stevenson Street. Demolition is scheduled for November. and construction will start the following spring.

The new hall will hold 400 beds for upperclassmen in "suite-style configurations," Duquesne said.

"Today's students have high expectations of campus services and demand an engaging environment in which to live and learn. In order to remain competitive in the marketplace it's important to offer modern facilities and a variety of living arrangement options," said Paul-James Cukanna, associate provost for enrollment management.

Nearly 3,500 of the university's 10,000-plus students live in the campus' six residence halls.
