Police said a car that was driven into the Shenango River in Pulaski Township, Lawrence County, on Tuesday morning had been reported stolen one day earlier.

A neighbor who normally walks in the area called police to report that there were tire tracks leading to the river off Nashau Road. It's an isolated street that is temporarily closed.

That report prompted police and firefighters to send a boat onto the water and launch a recovery effort, but they found no bodies inside the car or in the river.

After police learned that the car was stolen, they figured that the thieves ditched it in the river and got out before it hit the water.
