A 74-year-old Allegheny County woman refused to give in to the would-be robber who tried to snatch her purse on a Munhall street.

"I wasn't afraid of her," said Grace, who only wants her first name used. "I felt sorry for her. She was so miserable."

Grace told Channel 4 Action News' Marcie Cipriani that she had just bought a loaf of bread at CoGo's and was walking on Main Street when a woman grabbed her purse.

"I wouldn't let her have it, and I kept holding onto it, telling her to let go, and she wouldn't let go, and she was trying to run away with my purse while I was still holding onto it, so I hit her on the head with my bag of bread," Grace said.

Grace told Cipriani she refused to let go of her purse because she doesn't have the time to deal with the "nonsense" of losing credit cards. Plus, she had $200 inside.

"I have a sick husband, and I'm busy as it is, and I just didn't feel like putting up with any more nonsense," she said.

Grace said the woman had a scarf wrapped around the lower half of her face, so she wasn't able to get a good description of her attacker -- but she told Cipriani that the woman had evil in her eyes.

"Her eyes had a special look," Grace said.

So far, no arrests have been reported in the case.
