PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh police announced plans on Tuesday to target one of the city's hot spots for aggressive drivers -- the South Side.Channel 4 Action News' Bob Mayo was at a news conference held by police and PennDOT officials on Carson Street near Station Square concerning plans to get drivers to slow down."We've pulled over many aggressive drivers here. I'd say sometimes 30, 40 at a time," said Officer DeMichael Holmes. The enforcement campaign is targeting drivers who speed, tailgate, swerve and otherwise take out their frustrations on the road.Sgt. Terry Donnelly said there are some questions to ask yourself to determine if you're an aggressive driver."Do I turn my turn signals on? Do I have enough distance to change lanes? Am I following too closely to the vehicle in front of me? What would happen if that vehicle suddenly stopped -- would I have enough time to react?" Donnelly said.Donnelly also said it's important for drivers to avoid escalating the situation if they encounter someone aggressive on the road."Back off. And if that person is trying to cut over in front of you, use a little common sense, back off, let that person go, and then you go about your way," Donnelly said.
