2009 PITTSBURGH -- Beer lovers may be happy to hear that the North Side's Penn Brewery will once again be open for business.According to WTAE's news exchange partners at the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, brewery founder Tom Pastorius said he and a group of investors have purchased the company from Birchmere Capital, a private equity fund.Pastorius told the Trib that they plan to start making beer again at the Troy Hill facility and that the microbrewery's restaurant, which closed in August, will reopen as soon as the beer is ready.Pittsburgh's Urban Redevelopment Authority approved a $300,000 loan to Pastorius on Friday for the repurchase, and he once again is the microbrewery's CEO, the Trib reported.Penn Brewery shifted brewing and distribution of its popular Penn Pilsner and seven other brands to a Wilkes-Barre company in February of this year.Pastorius said Penn Pilsner will be the first beer brewed and sold on draft from the reopened brewery.
