Police Accused Of Drinking At Ravenstahl Election Night Party

Mayor Ravenstahl: 'That Activity Is Not Accepted'

Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl’s re-election was certainly reason to celebrate for his campaign members and staff, but some police officers have been accused of having a little too much celebratory fun.

"Let me be very clear, my security detail officers in no way have ever consumed alcohol. I know that because I've been there with them. That activity is not accepted. Never has been and never will be," said Ravenstahl.

Ravenstahl’s election night crowd at Mullen’s Bar & Grill included both a special events detail and his security team.

"I was here that day. I was here that evening. I didn't see anything. I didn't see 'misconduct?' I didn't see anything that I would consider misconduct," said Bubba Snider, of Mullen's Bar & Grill.

Pittsburgh police and the Office of Municipal Investigations are both investigating claims of police drinking and conflict.

WTAE's Bob Mayo asked Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Michael Huss where the complaint originated from.

"It came from within the police bureau, from a supposedly anonymous caller…and I'll leave it at that," said Huss. "The report we have filed was written by another member of the bureau of police."

When asked if the report involved some sort of conflict between the officers, Huss told Mayo, "I’m not going to get into that. It’s under investigation."

Fraternal Order of Police President Dan O’Hara was inside Mullen’s the night of the election and said he did not witness any trouble.

"I didn't observe anyone who was on-duty or part of the undercover security detail ever consume any alcohol whatsoever, and I did not see any kind of confrontations," said O'Hara.

Ravenstahl said he hopes and assumes his officers acted appropriately and maintains he saw nothing out of the ordinary.

"Obviously if individuals are drinking on the job, that's unacceptable. It won't be tolerated, but we don't know whether or not that happened," said Ravenstahl.
