A head-on car crash killed three Edinboro University students, including a Baldwin High School graduate who lived in the South Hills suburbs of Pittsburgh.

State police said a car tried to pass another vehicle at the crest of a hill and hit an oncoming car early Wednesday evening on Draketown Road in Washington Township, Erie County.

Police said the crash killed 18-year-old John Eyrolles, of Baldwin Borough, 18-year-old Domenico Crea, of Erie, and 21-year-old Sheldon Harmon, of Bolivar, N.Y.

Eyrolles graduated from Baldwin in 2008. Baldwin-Whitehall School District Superintendent Dr. Lawrence Korchnak told Channel 4 Action News that Eyrolles was involved in several clubs and was well-liked during his high school days.

"He was the type of person that could make you feel better about your day because he'd make you laugh," said childhood friend Nathan Stockton.

Stockton said he and Eyrolles were cub scouts together in elementary school and remained friends throughout high school.

"He can't ever experience half the stuff that I may get to experience. I don't know what he was going for, I don't know what he was going to do, but, it's just, he doesn't get to do it now," said Stockton.

Counselors were on hand at the high school on Thursday and will continue to be made available as long as needed.

"He was such a good, nice person to be around. The fact that he died makes it a little less fun," said Stockton.

Eyrolles' parents declined to comment to Channel 4 Action News.

Crea was driving the car that attempted the pass and Eyrolles was his passenger, police said.

Neither was wearing a seat belt.

Harmon was the driver of the other car and was wearing a seat belt, police said.

No charges have been filed.
