UPDATED: 7:07 pm EST November 11, 2009

What appeared to be a black bear was found struck and killed along the side of Interstate 79 near the Wexford exit on Wednesday morning.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission said a man who was driving by the area in a landscaping truck saw the animal and stopped. (See A Picture)

The driver called the game commission, which sent somebody to the scene and gave the man a permit to take the bear away on a flatbed.

It's not yet clear who hit the bear and when.

State police said they weren't notified of the incident, so there's no word on whether the driver who hit the bear was hurt or if that person's vehicle was damaged.

The game commission officer who was called to the scene on I-79 wasn't available to comment on Wednesday.
