2009 PITTSBURGH -- An 88-year-old Pittsburgh woman who fell off her bed Tuesday was discovered alive on Sunday, emergency officials told WTAE Channel 4 Action News.Florence Dziekonski has lived in Pittsburgh's South Side Slopes neighborhood for nearly 60 years, neighbors told WTAE Channel 4's Ashlie Hardway.Neighbors said her Godson visited her every Sunday. When he stopped by this Sunday, he made a discovery that likely saved her life."For ... her being up there for five days, I think it's wonderful (that her Godson arrived) because something really could've happened to her," said Vicki Gaskill, a neighbor. When Dziekonski's Godson came by Sunday, he heard her pounding on the floor. She was alive and not badly hurt."I thought it was great because she's an older lady and she couldn't have eaten anything or drink anything. So, she could have dehydrated in that little bit of time," Gaskill said.Pittsburgh police said Dziekonski was taken to UPMC Mercy, where she was listed in stable condition.Neighbors said Dziekonski hurt her arm and hip but was otherwise alright. They said it wasn't a surprise that she survived."For as old as she is, she travels out in the rain, snow. I've seen her try to come out and shovel her walk," Gaskill said. "For that age, she's pretty good."Police said officers found the house in a deplorable condition.Refresh ThePittsburghChannel.com often and watch Channel 4 Action News for the latest updates.
