A drunken man who police said harassed trick-or-treaters and their parents in Indiana on Halloween night allegedly became belligerent, threatening and disruptive at an Indiana County hospital, police said.

According to Indiana Borough police, officers observed Meade Sarver, 31, of Ernest, holding an open beer and acting under the influence of alcohol in the 100 block of Gompers Avenue shortly after 5:30 p.m.

Officers took Sarver into custody on a public drunkenness charge and transported him to the Indiana Regional Medical Center, during which time, police said Sarver threatened the officers and their families.

Police said the situation escalated upon arrival at the hospital, where Sarver is said to have "shouted profanities and disrupted patients and staff inside the emergency room, while thrashing around and screaming profanities," according to Indiana Borough police.

More Indiana Borough police officers were called to assist the arresting officers, in addition to Indiana University of Pennsylvania campus police and state troopers.

Police said Sarver continued to verbally threaten police officers, at times, spitting on them and knocking over hospital equipment.

When authorities were finally able to restrain Sarver, police took him to the Indiana County Jail for arraignment on several charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer, simple assault, terroristic threats, harassment, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, resisting arrest and open container.

He remained held Sunday on $25,000 cash bond, pending a preliminary hearing set for Thursday morning.
