Westmoreland Food Bank Needs Donations Before Thanksgiving

Some Families May Not Get Turkey Vouchers

POSTED: 6:07 pm EDT October 26, 2009

The Westmoreland County Food Bank is worried that it may come up short on turkey vouchers this year.

The food bank is trying to feed 7,000 families this Thanksgiving, and officials say the county has 500 more needy families than it did last year, because of the recession.

"It's a lot of money to come up with, particularly because we are having cash flow problems since the (state's) budget impasse," says Marlene Kozak, the food bank's CEO.

Because of the money crunch, there's a chance of some families not receiving $10 turkey vouchers.

The food bank is located at 100 Devonshire Drive in Delmont. Call 724-468-8660 or go to the food bank's Web site at www.westmorelandfoodbank.org to make a donation.

County schools are helping the food bank by taking part in a walk/run called the Turkey Cup Challenge, which raises money for turkey vouchers.
