Mayor Calls Community Meeting About Carnegie Library Closures

Lawrenceville, Beechview, West End, Hazelwood Branches Shutting Down

POSTED: 5:05 pm EDT October 19, 2009

Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said he will hold a community meeting to hear Pittsburgh residents' concerns about the pending closures of four Carnegie Library branches.

The library's board of trustees and Director Dr. Barbara Mistick are also invited to the meeting, which is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Lower Lyceum, 321 45th St., Lawrenceville.

Earlier this month, the board approved a cost-cutting plan to close the Lawrenceville, Beechview, West End and Hazelwood library branches and merge the Knoxville and Carrick branches.
