Adult Entertainment Zoning Restrictions Discussed

Some Want To Keep Businesses Out Of City

POSTED: 5:23 p.m. EDT April 10, 2003

Opponents of a proposed ban on adult entertainment in certain areas of Pittsburgh say it's too restrictive and could lead to lawsuits, WTAE reported Thursday.

City Council president Gene Ricciardi and councilwoman Barbara Burns want to limit strip clubs and other businesses from opening anywhere in the city, except downtown.

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership worry that business owners could claim First Amendment rights violations, because the zoning law would leave them with few places to open up shop.
