Neighbors Sue Steelers Over Planned Amphitheater

Group Concerned About Entertainment Venue

POSTED: 10:14 am EDT April 10, 2003

Neighbors of Heinz Field have filed another lawsuit against the Pittsburgh Steelers football team over noise issues.

The Allegheny West Civic Council filed a legal challenge to the Steelers' plan to build a 5,600-seat amphitheater next to the stadium. The team wants to open the $9 million facility next year.

Residents from the city's downtown, Mt. Washington and Allegheny West neighborhoods said events at the amphitheater will be too noisy.

But Steelers officials said the noise levels will be within the city's limits.

The Allegheny West Civic Council took the team to court in 2001, complaining that the stadium is too noisy and that Heinz Field's signs violated Pittsburgh's rules.

But the group dropped the challenge when the Steelers pledged to help residents crack down on litter, illegal parking and drunken tailgaters.
