Thursday afternoon kindergarten was canceled.

Lightning reportedly struck near the school at about 10:45 a.m., causing a partial power outage. The school's 270 pupils were transported by bus to a nearby church.

Students were taken to Elizabeth Forward Middle School for the afternoon.

Parents may pick up their children there at any time. The students will be bused back to the Greenock School for regular dismissal.

Also, a lightning strike of a tree along Everglade Road in Elizabeth Township damaged the home of Bob Powell.

Powell said he and his wife, Marylee, were startled by the lightning strike in their yard.

Powell, who was asleep at the time, said that the family room of his home was littered with broken glass and chunks of wood.

There were no injuries.
