2009 PITTSBURGH -- An 18-year-old man is dead and another person is injured after a shooting and a hit-and-run late Friday night on Pittsburgh's South Side.The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Martez Ward, 18. Police officers were called to the 3100 block of Cordell Place in the Arlington Heights neighborhood at about 9:45 p.m., where Ward was shot in the chest. Officers found Ward's body lying face down, unconscious and bleeding outside the doorway of 3155 Cordell Place. Ward was transported to Mercy Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.Police said witnesses at the scene saw a man dressed in dark clothing running from the scene after the shooting. Moments later, the witnesses said they saw a red Chevy Equinox come from behind the building and drive away from the scene at a high rate of speed. Witnesses said the sport utility vehicle lost a hubcap in the process.A hit-and-run was reported close to the shooting scene on Arlington Avenue. An unidentified person was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The vehicle involved was similar to the vehicle described at the scene of the shooting, but it was unclear if the shooting and hit-and-run were connected.No arrests have been made.Anyone with information concerning this homicide is encouraged to call the Homicide Unit at 412-323-7161.
