2009 VERONA, Pa. -- A Verona mother is pleading for help as her 2-year-old son remains hospitalized after being hit by a car Wednesday afternoon."I just want whoever did this to come forward because it wasn't right," said mother Rachel Wright.Elante Wright suffered a broken leg after police said he was struck in the 700 block of 2nd Street that separates his home from a nearby playground. His mother is struggling to understand how someone could hit her son and keep going."I wish it could be me. I'm hurt, frustrated. I wish I could take the place of him," said Rachel Wright.Rachel Wright said her brother-in-law was helping her son into a car when he was struck.Police said witnesses reported that the boy had been playing at the park across the street alone prior to the accident.Police have involved the Office of Children, Youth and Families in an investigation regarding the child's supervision, but are asking for community involvement to help track down the driver. "This is not right. You've got to put yourself in my son's shoes or in your grandson's or daughter's shoes because you can't live with yourself knowing you did a hit and run and getting away with something like this," said Rachel Wright.Police said they are looking for a red vehicle.Rachel Wright described it to Channel 4 Action News' Marcie Cipriani as a crossover vehicle -- between an SUV and a van -- driven by a white woman with shoulder-length blonde hair who is between 40 and 50 years old.
