The city of Pittsburgh and the Millvale Council have announced a new partnership that will share a major service between the two municipalities.

Channel 4 Action News' Bob Mayo was at a news conference on Wednesday when city and borough leaders announced the new plan.

Millvale has bought its water in bulk from the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority for the past 25 years.

The borough has reached a tentative deal agreement to sell the Millvale water system to the PWSA for $1.5 million.

The deal means the 1,800 Millvale residents who currently drink Pittsburgh water will be billed directly by the PWSA instead of Millvale.

Leaders said the deal will broaden the PWSA's customer base and spare Millvale future infrastructure costs.

The change means costs for Millvale water customers will eventually go up from $27.50 a month to $32.52 a month, Mayo reported.
