A 20-year-old woman was killed in a crash in rural Armstrong County over the weekend, but state police said her body lay unreported for as many as 12 hours.

Troopers think the car wreck happened between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Sunday on Toy Road in East Franklin Township. A passing driver called it in at about 4 p.m.

According to investigators, Heather Rebecca Walker, of North Buffalo Township, apparently ran through a stop sign near the T-intersection with Claypoole Road and hit a tree.

Walker -- who was not wearing a seat belt -- was thrown from the car, into a field and over an embankment, police said.

WTAE Channel 4's news exchange partners at the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that Coroner Robert Bower said the body was found 87 feet from the road, while the car continued through the field for about 120 feet.

High grass in the field concealed the car and the body for hours, police said.

The crash was ruled an accident by Bower's office.
