Vandal Spray Painted Racial Slurs On Grave Stones

A priest and police are trying to figure out who sprayed graffiti on gravestones in a parish-run cemetery in Washington County.

Vandals strike a Washington County cemetery for the second time in six months.

The Rev. Gary Krummert said someone sprayed white paint on eight gravestones, including profanity, swastikas and at least one racial slur.

Krummert says this is the second time since December someone targeted the St. Luke Cemetery at his Ave Maria Church in Bentleyville. That's about 20 miles south of Pittsburgh.

"It's something that happened six months ago, so the community here has already experienced vandalism of the cemetery," said Krummert. "It's something that angers people, it upsets people and it hurts people, especially the people whose loved ones have been buried here."

Parishioners have been working to clean the stones since they were discovered Friday.

A teenager was ordered to pay more than $4,000 restitution and put on probation for the December vandalism. No suspects have been charged with the recent damage.
