An elderly Fayette county woman is in the hospital after she impaled her car on a guard rail.

Police said Dona Saunders, 96, told them she was trying to avoid hitting something in the road when she crashed into the guard rail on Dally Road in Brownsville.

Investigators said the guard rail went through the front windshield of Saunders' car, passed through the passenger side and exited the rear window.

Saunders, of Brownsville, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital. Currently there's no word on her condition.

According to police reports, family members told investigators this is the second accident the Saunders has had since Mother's Day.

The family said they are taking action to have Saunders' license revoked.
