The water from the break, which happened shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday, made its way from 22nd and Sarah streets to Carson Street. It was so powerful that it even buckled a sidewalk.

"It was worse last night -- water up over the curb," neighbor Kevin Pajewski said Thursday. "There was a Mitsubishi Eclipse right there. The water was just pumping into the doors and everything."

A 16-inch main broke on Sarah Street, leaving about 15 homes without water service, said Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority spokeswoman Melissa Rubin.

Water has been shut off to the area and a water buffalo tank was brought in so neighbors can have drinking water.

"I couldn't take a shower last night. There was no water, not even a drop of water. Haven't washed my face in more than 24 hours," neighbor Satwant Parmar said.

The PWSA expected water service to be restored later Thursday afternoon.

The break left a big mess for crews to clean up. While much of the water had drained off the road, Channel 4 Action News' Amber Nicotra reported large puddles and debris still needed to be removed from the street.
