  • Landslide In West Homestead Threatens Businesses

    Trailer Damaged By Falling Rocks

Dirt and debris falling down a hillside in Allegheny County is causing concern for several West Homestead business owners.

A landslide threatens businesses in West Homestead.

No one was hurt and no homes are in danger, but two businesses sit in the path of the falling rocks.

Large rocks and debris tumbled down a hill, landing above an alleyway that sits above Forest Avenue in West Homestead. The rocks started falling late Sunday night, in what's primarily an industrial area, Channel 4 Action News' Amber Nicotra reported.

A flatbed tractor-trailer hitch that sits behind a tool company was damaged.

The other business did not appear to have any damage, but it sits in the direct line where the rocks are falling, Nicotra reported.

Both businesses sit atop another hillside where a creek runs below. That creek appears to be the barrier between the hillside and where the homes in the area are located.

Crews are still working to assess the situation and figure out how to deal with the slide.
