Allegheny County homicide detectives say they haven't found a clear motive for the shooting death of a youth football coach in Clairton early Thursday morning.

Police said they were called to the 500 block of Park Avenue, where they found Demonje Rosser shot outside his home. The 28-year-old Clairton man was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center and died shortly after 1 a.m.

"When he got out of his truck, someone shot him in the head," said Rosser's mother, Geraldine.

Rosser coached the Clairton Bears midget football team. According to the Clairton City School District's Web site, he was the seventh-grade assistant football coach for the 2004-2005 season.

"He's been my coach for five years and he coached me in Little League and high school," said David Spence. "He played a real important role in my life. He was more than my coach. He was also my friend."

Neighbor Roselyn Winters told WTAE Channel 4's Janelle Hall that the victim had a wife and four children, and had recently moved to a house two blocks away from Clairton's main school building on Waddell Avenue.

"My son was a good man, a good father. He was a mentor. He was a good kid and he didn't deserve this," said Geraldine Rosser.

A WTAE viewer identified as "Mark" sent this e-mail to thePittsburghChannel.com:
"This wasnt just another young African American male getting shot. ... Demonje was a clean cut, straight-laced guy who devoted his life to helping kids in the City of Clairton. ...this was a senseless act of violence. Demonje was "one of the good guys" in town. Something needs to be done to call awareness to this senseless crime. Please run with this story a little more and dont let it fall to the wayside... "

Clairton City School District Superintendent Dr. Lucille Abellonio released this statement:
"We are deeply saddened by the news, and we want to express our deepest sympathy to his family. He coached our students in midget and varsity football and was a graduate and resident of our district. He will be sorely missed."

So far, no one has been arrested. Anyone with information about the shooting is being asked to call county police at 412-473-1200.

"Everybody just looked up to him. I don't know who would want to kill him," said Geraldine Rosser.
