Police said a man returning to the scene of a crime ended up setting himself on fire and dying from his burns after a confrontation with police.

Levi Mohney, 24, died Thursday at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Police said he confronted troopers the day before at the mobile home of his former girlfriend in Strattanville in Clarion County.

The woman called police three times, saying Mohney first stole a television, then returned, hit her and stole more items.

State police Maj. Terry Seilhamer said Mohney was holding a bottle containing flammable liquid and a lighter when troopers entered the mobile home. Seilhamer said when Mohney refused to surrender, troopers used a stun gun and Mohney ignited himself.

Two state police troopers were treated for smoke inhalation.
