A federal judge in Pennsylvania has scheduled a video conference so the media can be present when he hears more arguments about whether to dismiss criminal charges against celebrity pathologist Cyril Wecht.

District Judge Sean McLaughlin is based in Erie. He originally set a teleconference, but will instead use video as attorneys gather in a federal courtroom in Pittsburgh Friday at 2 p.m.

Fourteen fraud-related charges remain against the 77-year-old Pittsburgh pathologist and former Allegheny County coroner. McLaughlin has not ruled on dismissing the charges since hearing arguments in January.

Federal prosecutors say Wecht used his county staff to benefit his lucrative private practice, a charge Wecht denies.

Wecht's first trial ended with a hung jury and mistrial before U.S. District Judge Arthur Schwab in Pittsburgh.

U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan's office requested a retrial, which was assigned to McLaughlin in Erie.
