Lawrence Co. Refuses To Pay For Boy Suspect's Juvy StayPOSTED: 8:35 am EDT March 11,
2009 WAMPUM, Pa. -- An 11-year-old homicide suspect spent several days at Beaver County's Allencrest Juvenile Detention Center before being transferred to a less expensive detention center in Erie.Now, the man responsible for paying the bill said he won't approve the boy's stay at Allencrest.Jordan Brown is accused of shooting his father's pregnant fiancée, Kenzie Houk, at their home in Wampum in Lawrence County in February.Police said Houk and her unborn child were killed when Brown shot her while she was lying down.Lawrence County Controller David Gettings said he received a $4,621 bill from Beaver County. He said the bill includes a daily rate of $300. It also includes $2,786 in sheriff's fees for security provided when Brown was there.Gettings said he has not seen a contract for the daily rate. He said he's been billed for six days, when he should have only been billed for five, because Brown only spent five nights there.Brown is currently being held in the Edmund L. Thomas Adolescent Detention Center in Erie.
