A Smith Township police officer charged with simple assault on an employee at a restaurant outside his jurisdiction in Washington County is now accused of pepper-spraying a man without cause.

Derek Dayoub, 26, of Scott Township, Allegheny County, is charged with simple assault, official oppression and harassment in both incidents, Washington County District Attorney Steven Toprani said.

Dayoub has not commented on the allegations. He remains free while the case proceeds and is suspended from the police department.

According to the newest charges, Dayoub allegedly threw a man head-first into the rear taillight of a car and emptied a can of pepper spray on him without being provoked in September, Toprani said.

Earlier, Dayoub had been accused of squeezing a pressure point near Brandon Lancaster's collarbone that caused the 19-year-old man to collapse at his job at a Burgettstown McDonald's restaurant in October.

Toprani said two other Smith Township officers are charged in separate cases in the ongoing misconduct investigation, which is being assisted by state police in Washington.
