Security Cameras To Keep Eye On Waterfront Shopping PlazaCameras Paid For By Homeland SecurityPOSTED: 12:21 pm EST January 6,
2009 PITTSBURGH -- New security cameras will be set up at the Waterfront Shopping Plaza in Homestead, thanks to a grant from the Department of Homeland Security.WTAE's news exchange partner the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that the cameras will be placed at all of the Waterfront's entrances and exits. The decision to install the cameras comes after two fatal shootings at the waterfront last summer. The shootings already prompted Developers Diversified Realty, which leases and manages Waterfront property, to add more police officers and security patrols. The Waterfront spans parts of Homestead, West Homestead and Munhall. After the shootings, the mayors of those three boroughs said they were trying to find money to install surveillance cameras at the Waterfront's three entrances.Whether cameras will be installed at individual stores and restaurants will be left up to the management of each business. Some, but not all, Waterfront businesses already have cameras.Police said surveillance footage was not available at Damon's Grill, where 19-year-old employee Brian Lee was shot to death during a closing-time robbery.Another man was shot and killed near an Eat'n Park restaurant just up the street from Damon's.
