WTAE-TV Hosts Food Bank's Telethon

UPDATED: 11:08 am EST December 23, 2008

Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and media partner WTAE-TV Channel 4 are working together this holiday season to fight hunger. The Food Bank's annual TV telethon aired Dec. 19 on WTAE Channel 4.

The format of the day's event was short segments that were shown between regular programming from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Food Bank staff and volunteers answered phones at WTAE's studio to take donations, give volunteer information, steer people who need food assistance to food pantries, and to answer general questions.

Supporters can still visit the Food Bank’s website (www.pittsburghfoodbank.org) to make a donation or find e-mail addresses for other services.

"WTAE has been a generous and enthusiastic TV media partner," said Food Bank CEO Joyce Rothermel. "They have really helped spread awareness of the problem of hunger in our region. We are excited to be continuing the telethon as an annual event, and thank WTAE for all their assistance."
