A man suspected in a fatal shooting overnight in Pittsburgh's Uptown neighborhood is in police custody Saturday.

A Duquesne University police officer patrolling in the 1300 block of Watson Street said he saw a man firing a gun while running down the street, investigators said. The officer pursued the man and detained him in a wooded area on Our Way.

Pittsburgh police took the man into custody and later recovered a stolen gun. Pittsburgh police identified the man as Jonathan Brown, 27, of Pittsburgh, who was charged with criminal homicide, carrying a firearm without a license, receiving stolen property, recklessly endangering another person and resisting arrest.

Detectives said Brown was involved in a fight with Donnell Jones Jr., 27, of Pittsburgh, just after 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Watson and Stevenson streets.

Police said Brown shot Jones during the fight and tried to run away. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

A motive was not immediately specified.
