A suspect in a drug-related investigation was killed by Housing Authority police Friday afternoon, WTAE's Paul Van Osdol reported.

Bernard Rogers was shot around 2 p.m. in the 2800 block of Bedford Avenue in Pittsburgh's Hill District. Click here to see a map of the area.

Rogers and police had gotten into an altercation that began in the hallway of a unit in the Bedford Dwellings housing complex, according to Keith Kinard of the Housing Authority.

Rogers allegedly tried to gain control of an officer's gun and was shot by the officer, Kinard said. Rogers was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he died.

Some neighbors told Van Osdol that Rogers was shot in the back, but Pittsburgh police Cmdr. Maurita Bryant said that allegation was not true.

The three officers involved in the incident have not been identified, but have been placed on administrative leave while the Housing Authority conducts an internal investigation. Pittsburgh police are also investigating the shooting.
